The Great Wall of China, Im sure worked to fend of enemies, yet there were some that got over it, Im certain. Now if they survived for long, the ememies that got over the wall, I doubt that. The Wall of China, was so long, as it was tall.
Ide say it was pretty smart of the Chinese to build such a defense

pretty crazy but it did work… i forget the names of the ancient cities of china but there were 7 and they were all at war with each other. Any way one of them won. The craziest part is how many men died building it from being overworked and underfed.

The Wall is actually not continuous, but is compossed of several sections built along key defensive points. These sections were built over a period of several centuries. Certaintly the Great Wall is an impressive engineering feet, but due to its fragmentary (both geographically and temporally) nature it falls short of “crazy” in my mind.
It served its purpose quite well, but was never meant as a comprehensive way to prevent enemy invasion.

It was Freakin Nutzy.
Ancient rulers don’t erect monuments and all that kinda stuff for national defense, it’s a tactical manouvre to ensure the enemies and rivals are coerced into respecting the mighty empires,it’s showing off. At the cost of many peasant and slave’s lives.

It worked until weapons advanced past the stage of people using walls as a major defense against invasion. Of course the thing wasn’t built in a few years either. this was an ongoing “public works’ project that each sucession of emperors dedicated the peasantry to labor away at.
The Great Wall eventually went the way of Hadrian’s Wall when seige weaponry and advanced tactics made walls obsolete as a stopping block for infantry advancing.

Once misconception about the great wall of china is that it was build to keep out invading Mongolians. This is not altogather true. The great wall did not keep out Mongolian soldier, it kept out Mongolian horses. the people could get over the wall but thier horses could not. and we all know that a Mongolian warrior without thier horse is basically worthless.
however, if you do any research on the mongolians, which i suggest you do, you will find out that thier tactics were so succesful that they were able to sack and conquere half of asia.
